Light _ Selected projects by Ante Quercus

Light is one of the most important elements in a design.

Natural light changes throughout the day. It defines lines, highlights textures, and gives materials an ever-changing appearance. Artificial light adds a second layer to this. It is not only functional but also an integral part of the architecture.

Sometimes almost invisible.
Sometimes as an object.
Always in relation to the space.

For me, a design begins with the site and its surroundings, the natural light, and the way a space is used. From that foundation, a balance emerges between architecture, interior, materials, and light. Light gives meaning to materials. Materials give form to space. And form determines how you experience a space.

Materials that are meant to age gracefully. Furniture and objects you don’t choose just for the moment. Light that doesn’t dominate, but enhances architecture and materials.

We do not see things
AS THEY ARE
We see things
AS WE ARE

Perhaps that is ultimately what light does as well. It changes not only what we see, but also how we experience a space.

A selection from various projects in which natural light and artificial light are each, in their own way, part of the design.
